Varistor for HF high power applications - has hemispherical electrode with ceramic oxide layer

A voltage dependant resistor (varistor) comprises a spherical electrode (2) defined by a semicircular ceramic oxide layer (1). The varistor thus formed is received in a semi-circular recess (13) of an electrical connection section (5). The upper surface of the recess (13) electrically contacts the outer surface of the ceramic layer (1). The flat surface of the electrode (2) is not covered by the ceramic layer (1) and it receives an electrical contact section (4). ADVANTAGE - Reduces mfg. cost of spherical shell varistor.
