<p>PURPOSE:To eliminate the effect of a surrounding picture element by estimating a dither pattern used from a dither picture at its generation and estimating an original intermediate tone picture in the dither pattern from a remarked picture element on the dither picture and its surrounding picture element information. CONSTITUTION:A dither pattern estimate section 101 measuring number of picture elements '1' or '0' included in picture elements of a dither picture corresponding to the matrix on the dither pattern and estimating the dither pattern used to generate the dither picture, and an intermediate tone picture estimate section 102 estimating the intermediate tone picture of the original picture from a remarked picture element and its surrounding picture elements on the original dither picture and the estimated original picture are provided to the system. Then the dither pattern estimate section 101 estimates the dither picture, and the intermediate tone picture estimate section 102 estimates the intermediate tone picture of the original picture from the dither pattern estimated by the dither pattern estimate section 101 and from the original dither picture. Thus, even when the dither pattern is unknown, the intermediate tone picture whose resolution is not inferior to that of the original picture is estimated.</p> |
