<p>Novel catalyst solns. for use in the anionic polymerisation of lactams comprise (a) 30-45 wt.% of an at least 7 ring-membered lactam contg. 3-5 wt.% alkali metal in the form of an alkali lactamate; (b) 3-8 wt.% 2-pyrrolidone; (c) 15-20 wt.% poly 1-4C alkylene glycol of mol wt. 250-350; (d) up to 5 wt.% primary and/or sec. mono- and/or poly-amine with normal pressure b.pt. above 250 deg.C; and (e) up to 40 wt.% of an aromatic hydrocarbon with b.pt. 80-145 deg.C. The sum of (a)-(e) is 100 wt.%.</p>
