Paper produced from pulp with high lignin content yellows under the influence of light and air. This is counteracted according to the invention by applying a mixture provided with a suitable amount of polyethylene glycol and optionally one or more other substances that counteract yellowing to the paper's surface. By applying the light-stabilizing substances to the surface of the paper, good light stability is achieved with less additives than when the substances are impregnated homogeneously throughout the entire sheet.
