The operator uses one of a large number of terminals to enter data about the mortgagee, e.g. date of birth, and data about the asset to be mortgaged, e.g. real estate, works of art, precious metals or gem stones. Groups of twelve terminals are connected via advanced terminal processors (105) to a central processing unit (101). The CPU (105) is connected to various input/output peripherals, e.g. a tape drive unit (102), magnetic disc drives (103) and printers (104).
