Synthetic linear polyamides are delustred by incorporation of a pigment comprising an oxide of cerium which has been deposited on finely divided titanium dioxide without subsequent calcination. The delustrant, which may be used in concentrations of 0.1-10.0 per cent, suitably contains 0.5-5.0 per cent, preferably 0.5-2.0 per cent, of cerium oxide, and may be prepared by suspending titanium dioxide in an acid solution of a cerium salt, and then gradually raising the pH by the addition of a base. The oxide mixture is filtered, washed, dried at 110 DEG C., and ground ready for incorporation in the polyamide, e.g. according to the process described in Specification 554,718, [Group IV]. Polyamides so delustred are said to exhisbit improved light durability. Specifications 506,125, 533,306, 543,466, 578,079, [all in Group IV], and U.S.A. Specification 2,217,743 also are referred to.ALSO:Fibres and other shaped structures of synthetic linear polyamides are delustered by incorporating in the polyamide a pigment comprising an oxide of cerium which has been deposited on finely divided titanium dioxide without subsequent calcination.
