The piston rod (432b) actuating the workpiece holder slides in the hollow spindle (416). A two-part cylindrical housing (430) contg. a piston (432) is immobilised against rotation w.r.t. the spindle (416), and incorporates an oil feeder (434) with a rotary inner part (434b). Coolant flows through a passage (441a) into a bore (445a) in the stationary outer part (434a) and another bore (445b) leading to the rear part (430b) of the housing (430). The coolant channel (470) for the rotor (452) is connected to the latter bore (445b). ADVANTAGE - Reliable cooling of hollow-spindle rotor is achieved at min. cost and even at low speeds.
