At the cutting end, the cutter has three equally spaced pillars (20), each with a hardmetal insert (3) secured by a clamping finger (12) and screw (15). The insert is supported with its underace against the side (24) of the pillar and its outside edge (54) against a bearing surface (5) normal to the side (24). The base edge of the insert rests against an inclined face (32) of an exchangeable abutment (6) which fits into a central hole of the cutter. By changing the projecting length of the abutment and the angle of the inclined face (32) the cutter can be adapted to produce chamfers of varying diameter and angle. ADVANTAGE - One cutter has extended range of application.
