Parachute supported land-mine - has target sensor functioning automatically as mine descends via wound-in connector cord

An explosive land-mine element (14) fired vertically, or at other desired angle, from a base support (22) is connected by a wound cord (16) to a parachute (18) packed in an upper cap (30). After a drive-unit (20) has fired the asssembly to its full height, the cap is sepd. and the mine starts to descend, winding up the connecting cord. During descent the explosive element is rotated so that a sensor (26) responsive to noise or vibration can pick-up an enemy tank on the ground. Rotation may be provided by tangential discharge nozzles round the mine perimeter. USE/ADVANTAGE - Applicable also as counter-helicopter weapon. Immediate sensor activation minimises time lost in target aquisition.
