Intra-medullar bone pin - has spring mechanism in chamber between telescoping sections

The intra-medullar locking pin is for the treatment of an injured bone, being secured to the latter by screws (5, 6) either side of the injury. The pin (2) is in two or more sections (3, 4) fitting one inside the other, so as to form a chamber (7) and slide axially in relation to each other. A spring mechanism (8) is accommodated in the chamber and is adjustable from outside. ADVANTAGE - Prevents shortening of the bone even where some bone tissue has been lost.
