The picture display device has a vacuum envelope for displaying pictures composed of pixels on a luminescent screen. A number of juxtaposed sources produce electrons and local electron ducts cooperate with the sources and have walls of electrically insulating material with a secondary emission coefficient suitable for electron transport through vacuum. Electrons are produced in the form of electron currents through juxtaposed trajectories at a short distance from the luminescent screen. A device withdraws each electron current at predetermined locations from its duct and directs it towards a desired location on the luminescent screen for producing a picture composed of pixels.
