The invention concerns a method and arrangement to identify a web break in a paper web in the drying part of a paper machine, said drying part containing several drying cylinders that are heated with steam and groups that are formed by these and several suction rolls 10 and groups of suction rolls. The paper web is arranged to run in the drying part unit from the drying cylinders to the suction rolls and then from the suction rolls to the drying cylinders supported by a drying wire H in which the web is arranged to run outermost in connection with the suction rolls 10. In the method the paper web's W running is observed and the occurrence of a web break in paper web W is observed by providing at least one suction roll 10 with a device 16, 17, 18, 19 that observes a change in flow resistance from the outer side of the suction roll to its inner side if the paper web separates from connection with wire H. <IMAGE>
