An optical switch (10) is disclosed including a first (22) and second array (22 min ) of optical fibers (40-43,40 min -43 min ) held in axial alignment and relatively rotatable about an axis of rotation (X-X) to effect optical coupling and decoupling of fibers of the opposing arrays (22,22 min ). Terminal ends (40a-43a) of fibers of the first array (22) are set at a predetermined non-orthogonal angle (A) relative to the axis of rotation (X-X). Terminal ends (40a min -43a min ) of fibers of the second array (22 min ) are set at an angle (B) which is complementary to the non-orthogonal angle. <IMAGE>
