PURPOSE:To enable high speed clear printing by making the longitudinal length of a print dot longer than the lateral length, and describing a laterally elongated character and bar codes, in advance, in an image RAM. CONSTITUTION:An image data processor 2 collapses a character in logitudinal direction and the collapsed character is described in an image RAM 4. When data stored in the image RAM 4 are printed onto a recording paper, printing is carried out with longitudinally elongated dots by increasing the feeding amount of the recording paper per a step of a step motor 9 or by increasing the number of pulses to be applied onto the step motor 9. Consequently, printing speed is increased by the amount of elongation of the print dot if the number of data to be transmitted to a thermal head within a predetermined time is constant. Control of heating and cooling cycle of the thermal head 6 is also facilitated regardless of increase of printing speed. |
