PURPOSE: To shift down an electrostatic latent image by providing a means which adjusts the number of designated areas on a photoconductive belt. CONSTITUTION: A photoconductive belt 10 is provided with six designated areas 92 and is moved in the direction of an arrow 12. Areas 92 have the same size of (8.5 inches)×(11 inches). All inter-image zone 94 is a zone between adjacent areas 92 and is about 2.285cm long. A test patch 96 is recorded in each zone 94. The test patch 96 is rectangular and is 1.8cm wide and 4.0cm high. A latent image is extended into the zone 92 when being displaced with respect to the area 92. For example, the latent image overlaps the test patch 96 by about 1.27cm displacement. Consequently, it is necessary to increase the size of the zone 94, and the increase is realized by reducing the number or areas 92 from 6 to 5, and a certain length (d) of displacement is 1.27cm in this case. This displacement is achieved by advancing the operation timing of a lamp, which illuminates a document on a transparent pressure board, by a prescribed time. |
