The invention relates to the marking of products, such as food trays, by means of an interposed label. Its object is to provide a solution to the dual problem of writing on products, in a packaging line, indications (information) likely to vary from one product to another, this taking place with as little adverse effect on the rate as possible. The method according to the invention is characterised in that the marking of each label (E), applied on a product by means of a labelling machine (1), is effected with an ink jet printer (2) during a movement of the label controlled by the labelling machine, but only after the preceding label has already been applied on a product. Applications to the marking of indications such as weight, price per kilo, unit price, etc., on food product trays. <IMAGE>
