PURPOSE:To effectively utilize the characteristics of a fluid coupling and a lockup clutch by deciding ON and OFF of a lockup from a relation between a fluid coupling operating drive force and a lockup drive force to output a lockup signal. CONSTITUTION:When a vehicle is run as a shift is controlled by a continuously variable transmission, by means of signals for the number Ne of revolutions of an engine, a throttle opening theta, the number Np of revolutions of a primary pulley, and an actual change gear ratio (i), a drive force Fr during operation of a torque converter is calculated by a calculating part 92 and a drive force FL during lockup by a calculating part 93. ON and OFF of a lockup are decided and selected by a selection part 94 so that a drive force is always increased, a lockup is controlled, and an optimum drive force is generated by means of a fluid coupling or a lockup clutch. This constitution always effectively utilizes the characteristics of the fluid coupling and the lockup clutch. |
