The method for adjusting, on vehicle, a controlled-ignition direct-injection engine (6) consists in detecting the position of the accelerator pedal (1) of the vehicle with the aid of a potentiometer (3), in detecting top dead centre for the engine, in detecting the engine speed, in detecting the intake air and cooling water temperatures of the engine, in processing the detection signals using a computer (4) in order to provide optimal adjustment parameters of the engine which are the duration and phase of fuel injection, the phase (phasing) of firing the spark plugs, and the opening of the intake butterfly (10), the said butterfly being motorised and without any mechanical link to the accelerator pedal.
