Self-propelled lifter for beet and similar objects, equipped with four wheels of which at least the rear wheels (13) are driving wheels, and at least the front wheels (8) are guiding wheels, an engine (22) and a driver's cab (23) being carried by a chassis close to the rear wheels, and lifting tools being supported by the chassis between the front and rear wheels. The chassis includes a front part consisting of a single longitudinal member, or jib, 17, and a rear part including two longitudinal members (18) joined by cross-members (19, 20, 21), the front wheels (8) being connected to the jib, and the rear wheels (13) being connected to the rear part, which supports the engine (22) and the driver's cab (23). Preferably, the jib is tubular, advantageously open downwards, and fluid or electricity ducts and/or transmission members are housed inside the said jib. <IMAGE>
