<p>PURPOSE:To provide a heat insulating material having excellent heat insulating performance by covering the whole of a plurality of spherical glass materials, piled up in a plurality of layers, with a glass layer and bringing a gap between the adjoining glass materials into a vacuum state. CONSTITUTION:Spherical glass materials 1 are piled up in a plurality of layers to form an assembly 2, and the whole of the assembly 2 is covered with a glass layer 3 to form a heat insulating material 5. A gap 4 between the adjoining spherical glass materials 1 of the assembly 2 is brought into a vacuum state. A heat resisting container 10 of a heat resisting steal is stuffed with a plurality of the spherical glass materials 1 and piled up in a plurality of layers to form the assembly 2. The container 10 is charged in a vacuum heating furnace to melt only the spherical glass material 1 of the upper part, the bottom part, and the sides of the assembly 2, and after the gap 4 between the adjoining spherical glass materials 1 is filled with molten glass layer 3, the glass layer is cooled to form the heat insulating material 5. This method prevents the occurrence of thermal conduction effected through air and provides extremely excellent heat insulating performance.</p> |
