The invention relates to a device for detecting jolting or tilting of a building. It comprises a plinth (1) equipped with a device (17, 18) for setting the horizontal level, and including a beam (2-4) from which is suspended a balance arm (5) with an electrically conducting rod (6) and a horizontal, electrically conducting bar (8) the free end (9) of which surrounds, in at least a semicircle, the rod (6) of the balance arm (5) in the rest state, and an electrical and/or electronic alarm circuit (12) including two inputs connected respectively to the abovementioned rod (6) and the bar (8), triggering of which is controlled by connecting these two inputs. According to another characteristic of the invention, the rod (6) is hooked onto the beam (2-4) by means of a spring (15). Application to detection of seismic shocks. <IMAGE>
