An insert (5) for use in light-liq. separators consists of one or more layers of a coaliser-tube structure (8) between outer surface support- or coaliser elements. The upstream surface element consists of a perforated plate or a rigid grill, while that on the downstream side consists of a fibrous or wire mesh. The coaliser tube structure is in the form of a perforated tube material, closed at one end amula (I) and provided at the other end for connection to a rinsing system. Each rinsing connection may be connected to a water supply for periodic washing of the insert, or to an air supply in order to produce a flotation effect in the separator. USE/ADVANTAGE - This invention is used in light liq. separators in order to smooth and coalesce the liq. flow and hence to improve the effectiveness and throughput of the systems. The required effect is achieved even in separators with large flow rates, and the rate of clogging of the device is low, so that it can work for long periods without loss of performance.
