PURPOSE:To get deterrent action of discharge applied to cells making incorrect discharge by providing mechanical barrier walls on the borders between cells in the address for preventing quick movement of discharge gas while arranging the electrodes for selection on the side of the barrier walls. CONSTITUTION:A plurality of the pair of an X holding electrode and Y holding electrode are periodically formed on a lower substrate 1 by a thick film method or a thin film method, of for example, printing and fixing said electrodes thereon with metal paste, followed by getting dielectric paste on the groups of the electrodes 2 and 3 while being fired in a furnace for forming a dielectric layer 6. After printing and firing partitions 4 raised and arranged to cross the holding electrodes on the dielectric layer 6, the selection electrodes 5 are formed on one side on the partitions 4 by vacuum evaporation. Thereafter, a gas discharge panel is formed by covering thus produced article with an upper substrate 7 while filling discharge gas therein. When a selection pulse is applied to the selection electrodes 5 in the state where the voltage to be held is impressed on the X and Y holding electrodes of the panel thus formed, the selection discharge is induced into a target cell thus, sharply reducing discharge of the neighboring cells located over the partitions. |
