New monoazo dyestuffs are 4-substd.-2,6-dicyano-benzene (1-azo-4) N-allyl-N-beta- cyanoethyl- or -N-gamma-cyano-propyl-N'-acyl -phenylene-1,3-diamines of formula (I): X = Me, Et, F, Cl, Br, MeO or EtO; R = Me, Et, n-Pr, i-Pr, n-Bu, i-Bu or s-Bu; n = 2 or 3. The claims also cover mixts. contg. 2 or more (I) cpds.. (I) are prepd. by a nucleophilic exchange reaction from the corresp. 2-cyano-6-halo- or 2,6-dihalo-benzene azo cpds. (pref. chloro or esp. bromo cpds.) with the cyanide ion CN(-) as nucleophilic agent.
