Modified device for dipping shaped dough items into lye (alkali soln.) comprises two wire mesh grills whose frames have handles at one end and are hinged together about an axis at the other. When the frames are in the closed position, the handles lie close together so they can easily be gripped by one hand, and when they are in the open position all of the compartments contg. dough items lie in the same plane. A pallet having compartments corresp. with the compartments is used for loading the dough items into the grills, and a baking surface is used which is similarly adapted to receive the dough from these grills without sepg. from the frames. USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in bakeries where items are required to the dipped in lye before baking. Device is simplified by eliminating the need for a wire mesh cover for the open side of the frames, and ease with which the device can be handled is improved.
