<p>A process for the removal of H2S from a sour gas stream comprising: a) contacting the sour gas stream (1) with aqueous reactant solution (12) containing the ferric chelate of an acid having formula (I), wherein R is selected from H and alkyl containing 1 through 3 carbon atoms, the mol-ratio of the ligand to the iron in the chelate being at least about 2, under conditions to convert H2S to sulfur and an aqueous mixture (4) containing solid sulfur and ferrous chelate in solution, separating the sulfur (6), and b) chemically regenerating (8) aqueous mixture (7) with O2 (9) to convert the ferrous chelate to ferric chelate, and producing regenerate aqueous solution which is recycled (12).</p> |
