The air intake system is for a piston engine. It has two manifolds from which branch pipes run to the individual cylinders. - Each manifold (3,4) runs along a bank of cylinders (1,2). They are flat in shape and of low height, mounted close together. They can be situated between the banks of a V- or horizontally-opposed engine, one above the other at geodetic level.
