Condensable and sublimable materials (A) are removed from gas streams by regenerative cooling of the gas to 0-180 (pref. -30 to -70) deg.C by passing it through a cold storage mass which is simultaneously warmed. Any mist formed by cooling but not deposited is removed in a separator and the gas is cooled further to below the m.pt. of the residual components to be removed. These impurities are deposited in a storage mass of large surface area and high pore vol. and the purified gas is then warmed back to ambient temp. by passing through a warm storage mass (which becomes cooled). Periodically the flow direction of the gas is changed so that the functions of the cooling/warming masses are switched. This causes solid impurities to meet and discharge of liq. impurities from the mass and separator. USE/ADVANTAGE - The method provides efficient removal of (I) and recovery for reuse, e.g. it is applied to materials evaporating from fuel or chemical storage taks. The use of regenerative cooling/heating reduces the energy demands of the process.
