Crosslinked bead polymers having an average particle diameter in the range of from 0.5-10 mu m and a narrow particle size distribution can be prepared by polymerization of vinyl monomers and silane monomer units which contain a hydrolysable group, the polymerization being carried out in a non-aqueous, polar medium using a free-radical former as the initiator in the presence of a polymer which is soluble in this medium and acts as a dispersant, and furthermore in the presence of a low molecular weight surfactant, and the resulting polymer is then crosslinked by the action of an aqueous acid or base. |
