A cooling fluid is circulated around a closed circuit including a heat source (10), for example by a pump (11). The system includes a heat exchanger (12) for removing heat from the fluid. Valve means (13) are provided which are operated by changes in volume of the cooling fluid to cause the fluid to bypass the heat exchanger (12) when the temperature of the fluid is below a predetermined value.
