PURPOSE:To detect the extent of variation of a photosensitive drum with simple constitution and to control image forming operation properly by controlling the image forming operation according to the detection result of the grid current of an electrostatic charging device. CONSTITUTION:The image forming operation controller 30 detects a current flowing to a grid by a grid current detecting means 36. This grid current varies linearly as the use of the photosensitive drum is advanced, so the grid current is used as a control parameter to control the image forming operation of the image forming device properly without measuring the state of the photosensitive drum directly. Consequently, the extent of variation of the photosensitive drum is detected with the simple constitution and an image forming operation control means 1 controls the image forming operation properly.
