SCREENING ASSAY FOR MICROORGANISMS ASSOCIATED WITH PERIODONTAL DISEASES, ARTICLE AND KIT USEFUL THEREIN A screening method is provided for indiscriminate detection of microorganisms associated with various periodontal diseases, such as any of the microorganisms Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans, Bacteroides gingivalis and Bacteroides intermedius. In this screening method, a specimen suspected of containing antigens from one or more of these microorganisms is contacted with a microporous membrane on which immunological complexes are formed with the appropriate antibodies. In order for screening to occur, antibodies to at least one antigen from each microorganism is used. Any complexes formed on the membrane can be detected using appropriate labels and detection means to indicate the presence of at least one of the microorganisms. This method does not discriminate among the microorganisms. Also provided is a water-insoluble article and kit useful in practicing the screening method.
