PURPOSE: To provide an electrode for an electron gun capable of applying high- current density and having continuous open pores by forming glass barium by the contact reaction of a reducing agent and an impregnation compound, pouring inert gas into a pores metal layer of an impregnated cathode body, and continuously opening pores of the porous metal layer. CONSTITUTION: A powdery reducing agent is put in a molybdenum cup 2 to 10-100% of the volume of the cup 2, and the upper part of the cup 2 is welded to a porous metal layers 5 for sealing. The cup 2 is put in an impregnating bath 7 in a vacuum furnace 6, a molten state impregnating compound is impregnated in the reducing agent 4 in the molybdenum cup 2 to reduce barium. An inert gas is poured in the porous metal layer 5 to open the pores closed with the impregnating compound 8. A drop in performance and shortening of the life are prevented, and an electrode for an electron gun capable of applying high-current density and having continuous open pores is obtained. |
