The deflection roller for plastics foil web has surface formed by axially movable elements (5), parallel to the axis of rotation of the roller and covered over part of its circumference by the foil web. The elements are displaceable freely individually in the axial direction. A resetting device (9) is mounted in the roller circumference part not covered by the foil web (7) such that the axially displaced elements are forced back into their starting position as the roller turns.
