Pallet for transporting cylindrical workpieces - incorporates pairs of sliding jaws to grip workpieces

Cylindrical workpieces, such as parts of chucks, are transported between work stations on pallet. Each pallet is provided with a number of pairs of jaws which can be moved relative to each other by means of a screw drive. One member (6) of each pair of jaws has V-shaped recesses with an included angle (alpha) which is pref. equal to 60 deg. The other member (5) of the pair has flat topped projections which press the workpiece (17) into the V-shaped recess of the first jaw (6). The jaws can grip workpieces of different diameters and the workpiece centre-lines are held in the same position irrespective of the diameter of the workpiece. This is achieved by moving the first jaw (6) through twice the distance moved by the second jaw, when adjusting the positions of the jaws to suit workpieces of a different dia.
