Classes 20(2), 20(4), 87(1) and 137 Elongated parallel channel members of aluminium, iron or synthetic resin (sections are indicated in Figs. 5, 8) are mounted to cover a wall or ceiling 1, e.g. to cover or contain sound-absorbing insulation 7, a laterally-projecting flange 4 extending from each channel across a slot 6 formed between the channel and an adjacent channel. The flange is releasably received by supports carried by mounting rails 2, e.g. of channel form, Fig. 3, secured to the wall or ceiling, in spaced parallel relationship, transverse to the channel members. There may be a wall opposite to that bearing the flange 4, which bears an inturned flange 5, and being smaller permits communication from the slot 6 to the insulation 7. The channel surface facing the room, or that facing the slot, may be perforated and covered by tissue paper, or both surfaces may be so formed. The flange 4 may also be perforated. Four possible arrangements of the insulation 7 are shown in Fig. 1, i.e. it is secured to the ceiling 1; it fills the channel and touches the ceiling; it merely covers the bottom of the channel; or it completely or partly fills the channel and extends up between the rails 2. The channels are secured to the rails 2 by engaging the flanges 4, 5 with the ends 10, 11 of resilient clips 8, Fig. 4, which are held in rows along the rails 2 by holes 9 receiving resilient tongues 12 stamped out of or secured to the rails. The clips 8 may be omitted, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), and the flanges 4 engaged directly by the tongues 12. The channels may be shallow, Fig. 8. The channels may be used with a heating and/or ventilating arrangement whereby air is exhausted from the space behind the channels or supplied to it. |
