A switching drive circuit includes a first transistor which supplies a load with a drive current for a forward direction in response to a first pulse signal, and a second transistor which supplies the load with a drive current for a reverse direction in response to a second pulse signal. The drive circuit drives the load by switching a current through the load on and off in response to the first and second pulse signals. The drive circuit further includes a first switching means for shorting the first transistor between its base and emitter at the time of disappearance of the first pulse signal. A second switching means shorts the second transistor between its base and emitter at the time of disappearance of the second pulse signal.
