PURPOSE:To make formation of ink drops sure and supply ink stable by applying pressure to ink in a tank to supply ink by circulating ink between the tank and the head at the beginning of the ink supply and later supplying ink through the pipe by means of the capillary action. CONSTITUTION:When valves 212 and 213 are opened and a pressure pump 207 applies pressure to an ink chamber 202, a valve 205 is closed and ink is filled in a multi-nozzle ink jet head 233 through a communicating hole 210, communicating groove 218, pipe 231, etc. This application of pressure is continued until ink flows in an ink chamber 203 through a pipe 232, transit chamber 228, communication groove 219, etc., and both chamber 202 and 203 are filled with ink. Next, the application of pressure is stopped, and the valve 205 is opened to make equal the ink levels of both chamber 202 and 203. Then, ink is discharged from the head 233 and supplied to the head 233 by the capillary action through respective flow channels from both chamber 202 and 203. |
