<p>A recirculating gas separator (36) for a submersible well pump (12) includes a rotary gas separator (44) for separating liquid to be directed to the pump (12) from a gas. The separator (44) includes a separating chamber (46), a well fluid inlet (48) upstream of the separating chamber (46), and a liquid discharge outlet (50) downstream of the separating chamber (46). A recirculating system (56) recirculates a portion of the liquid discharged form the discharge outlet (50) back to the separating chamber (46) so that a gas-to-liquid ratio in the separator (44) is substantially lower than a gas-to-liquid ratio of well fluid entering the well fluid inlet (48). Thus, the submersible well pump (12) with the recirculating gas separator (36) can successfully pump wells having substantially higher gas-to-liquid ratios than can be accomplished with prior devices.</p> |
