Improvements in braking systems for a tank, which comprise fitting it with two lateral brakes with progressive discs, the control lever for which is activated by means of two independent hydraulic circuits, the main one being the brake for movement which is activated by a pedal by means of which brake fluid under pressure is delivered to a valve box, and a pipe which communicates with the control of a delay unit provided within the vehicle transmission and acting as a hydraulic brake, until the pressure falls below half the maximum, in which case it passes through the valve box and activates the brake cylinder whose control lever moves, immobilising it. The secondary circuit is controlled by a handbrake and is used to park the tank, displacing the brake lever also by means of hydraulic fluid and optionally immobilising it by means of an interlock controlled by a teleflex cable from a control located in the driver's space. <IMAGE>
