The invention relates to a device for holding and manipulating the head of a prosthetic articulation, and in particular the head of a femoral implant. It is characterised in that it comprises at least one rigid piece (4) which has, in axial arrangement: - at least one concave span (5) of an extent substantially equivalent to that of a hemisphere (6a, 6b) of the prosthetic head (2) and of dimensions and shapes at least sufficient to cooperate closely with the said head, - at least one means (7) for applying the prosthetic head elastically and with force against the concave span (5), - at least one access opening (8) of the head as far as the said concave span (5), - at least one rigid wall (9) which, on the one hand, to a considerable extent encloses the spherical head in the rest position against the concave span (5) and, on the other hand, constitutes at least one grip surface (10) which has a globally cylindrical envelope. <IMAGE>
