Nickel-cadmium accumulator with reduced maintenance, comprising a set of positive electrodes, a set of negative electrodes whose active mass is consolidated by a polymer or is electrodeposited, and separators consisting of at least one felt made of a material chosen from a polyamide, polypropylene, polyethylene, alone or in a mixture, without an additional membrane, characterised in that the inter-electrode distance lies between 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm, in that the said felts are composed of fibres, the majority of which has a diameter of 5 mu m with a surface density lying between 90 and 160 g/m<2>, in that the internal pressure is kept between 0 and 0.7 bar, and in that the said accumulator contains a free electrolyte, so as to have, within temperature limits lying between -30 DEG C and +60 DEG C, a charge characteristic allowing the detection of the end of the charge by measuring the increase in the voltage (curve D). <IMAGE> |
