A spectrophotometric method for the determination of total bilirubin content of an aqueous liquid comprises contacting it with a mordant and detecting the absorption spectrum of the mordanted bilirubin at a wavelength in the range of from 385 to 425 nm, preferably where the absorption characteristics of conjugated and unconugated bilirubin are effectively identical. |
