PURPOSE:To eliminate the necessity of a stand-by volume, by releasing an extent contained in a volume, onto an optional working volume, when a volume of a storage device has become faulty, and swapping the extent on the faulty volume. CONSTITUTION:When an extent A or B on a volume V001 is in use, if an overall fault has occured in V001, the occurrence of the fault is informed to a user's job and an operator. The operator designates an idle space of working volumes V002, V003 by a job control statement and starts a recovery job. The recovery job release the extent A and B to the idle space of V002 and V003 by use of total dump data and log data, and updates a control information showing the relation between the extent and the volume. When access of the user's job is restarted, an access route of the extent is switched by referring to the updated control information, and extent swap processing is executed by use of the extent A of V002 and the extent B of V003. |
