<p>Textile dyeing apparatus comprises at least one spray head (3), arranged to spray dye liquor onto a textile article (1), a reservoir (4) for dye liquor, at least one duct (10), the or each duct being arranged to supply liquor from the reservoir to the spray head, means (16) to pressurize the liquor in the or each duct, one are or more valves for controlling the supply of dye liquor to the spray head and one or more pumps to supply liquor to the or each duct. The means to pressurize the liquor is preferably a compressed gas, e.g. compressed air. Preferably, the pump or pumps are controlled by means responsive to the liquor level, e.g. in the or each duct or an associated side arm (17), such that the pump supplies liquor to the or each duct, and therefore its associated spray head, fast enough to prevent any air being consumed and preferably of sufficient speed to prevent significant pressure change. The pressure of the liquor is thus determined by the pressure of the air supply. A wide variety of spray jets may be employed. Since there is no air entrained in the spray, formation of toxic aerosols is minimised and larger droplet size may be obtained. In addition more direct and responsive control of the pattern of spray may be achieved owing to the absence of compressible material between the valve and spray jet. Since no air is consumed in the use of the apparatus, the need for a compressor is avoided and a cylinder of compressed air may be employed.</p> |
