The implant in the pelvis is for a socket for a hip joint. The implant is retained in the pelvis by two fixing devices. The first fixing device is a screw (2) which passes through a hole in the socket wall and is screwed into the bone. In the modified system the second fixing device (7) consists of an L-shaped member (40) with two legs (41, 42). The leg (41) has a hole to receive the screw thread end of a pin (10) which screws into the wall of the socket. The other leg (42) abuts against the surface of the bone (1).
