<p>Ophthalmic compositions, such as those used to care for contact lenses, methods of preserving such compositions, and methods for disinfecting contact lenses using such compositions are disclosed. The compositions may comprise an ophthalmically acceptable, liquid aqueous medium and, included therein, an effective preserving or disinfecting amount of an ophthalmically acceptable quaternary ammonium substituted matrix material, the matrix material being selected from the group consisting of proteinaceous materials, carbohydrate materials and mixtures thereof.</p> |
