Protection of wood against degradation by harmful organisms is effected using a 2,4-dimethyl-thiazole -5-carboxanilide of formula (I): R = H or 1-4C alkyl. (I) are described e.g. in US 3709992, CA 837517 and CA 873888. ADVANTAGE - (I) are fungicides with high activity against wood-destroying fungi, e.g. Coniophora puteana, Poria placenta and Gleophyllum trabeum, despite having low activity against wood-staining fungi.
