Apparatus for recovery of a hollow object (1), which is elongated along one longitudinal or height direction (2), exhibiting a wall in plastic material, for example a tumbler, against the delivery of a counter-value medium, comprising an airlock (5) for insertion of the object by the user, a device (6) for recognition of the conformity of the object, a destruction device (8) for the conforming recognised object, a means of storage (12) of the object destroyed, and a device for delivery (13) of the counter-value medium, characterised in that the destruction device (8) incorporates at least one melting medium (9) for the conforming recognised object (1), and a device (10) for generation of a flow of hot air, comprising a nozzle (10a) for emission of the flow, directed towards the supported object, the said hot air generator being regulated at a temperature sufficient to bring about contraction by melting of the object (1) to be destroyed.
