A process is described for the preparation of polymer compositions by mixing A) an olefin polymer, B) at least a second polymer which has a vitreous transition temperature which is higher than the vitreous transition temperature of olefin polymer A such as for example: a copolymer and a terpolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride or a maleimide; polystyrene mixed with an arylene polyether and, optionally, an elastomer; a mixture or reaction product of styrene-maleic anhydride or a maleimide copolymer or terpolymer with elastomers; polycarbonates, etc., and C) at least one compatibilizing agent selected from the group comprising various block copolymers of aromatic vinyl and conjugated diene compounds and their partly hydrogenated derivatives. The mixed polymer compositions according to this invention may be subjected to extrusion, coextrusion, thermal deformation, blow moulding, injection moulding, compression moulding, rolling, lamination, foam formation, stamping, pultrusion or continuous fibre coating in an extrusion die to obtain moulded articles which are useful in a great variety of applications. Polymer compositions mixed and compatibilized in accordance with this invention have excellent thermal distortion properties and excellent mechanical strength properties, tenacity, rigidity, gloss, ease of processing and forming, better interaction with loads, hardness, bonding and shrinking capacity and can be folded and treated with microwaves.
